Civil Service Presentation with Hatfield Alumni

This event will be an opportunity for free food, networking, and to hear a presentation about the Fast Stream - the Government's leadership development scheme for talented people.

The presentation will set out some of the core facts about the Fast Stream, including:

  • Key info about the scheme - salaries, scheme lengths, development opportunities
  • The 15 different schemes available for graduates - from the generalist scheme which puts you into varied and profile roles across Government, to the specific Diplomatic, Finance, Commercial and Digital options
  • Some of the high profile pieces of work Durham alumni in the outreach team have been involved in;
  • Info about the application process - this multi-stage process is already open, and closes on 26 October; in 2015 there were over 20,000 applications and nearly 1000 appointments. We'll talk through some tips to guide applicants through

One of the speakers will be Durham Graduate (2015), George Miller:

  • Has worked in communications and public policy research
  • After joining the Fast Stream, he's worked in high profile Government policy roles, both in HMRC's Anti Money Laundering Supervision team, and in the cross- Departmental Cities and Local Growth Unit
  • Has taken part in writing legislation, shaping Government's Industrial Strategy, and is currently on a secondment building affordable housing in London
